Homosexuality (from Greek Homo meaning "same", and Latin sexus meaning "sex") is attraction between people of the same gender. In today's world its more accepted than it was in the past but one thing that will never change is religion. While the world around around is changing every minute the script of god will never change. Religion has a big part in today's society and has a big effect in how some people live their everyday lives. I picked to explore 2/3 most common religion, Judaism and Islam in what is it taught about Homosexuality.
Judaism
Judaism is a religious tradition with origins dating back nearly four thousand years, rooted in the ancient near eastern region of Canaan .Judaism traces its heritage to the covenant God made with Abraham and his lineage that God would make them a sacred people and give them a holy land. The primary figures of Israelite culture include the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the prophet Moses, who received God's law at Mt. Sinai. Judaism is a tradition grounded in the religious, ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah the first five books of the Hebrew Bible.
This quote obviously states that it it a crime to be homosexuals and that it is unaccepted in the kingdom of god. Also I noticed that they categorize homosexuals with thieves, alcoholic, and a con artist. It make it seem like its a crime to be a homosexual and that its unrighteous. They make them out to be low lives and that basically it the work of the devil. This quote can have a very large impact on how Jewish people treat homosexuals. Not saying all Jewish people downgrade homosexuals but only the ones that strongly follow and agree with 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.
It is greatly unhuman, ungodly, and detestation to lay with the same sex is the point that is trying to get across in this quote. If you lay with with a man as you are supposed to lay with your wife then you a abomination, ugly , and etc. You can't help it for who you love and if you we're ever caught you would be shunned and degraded into the category with killers, thieves, and made it like a crime. When really being Homosexual is really nothing, I see it like a hair color. Some people have blond hair others have dark hair, its just a subject and it doesn't defined you.
Islam
Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a book considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God and by the teachings and normative example of Muhammad, considered by them to be the last prophet of God. The Quran, the sacred text of Islam, contains the teachings of the Prophet that were revealed to him from Allah. Islam has several branches and much variety within those branches. The two divisions within the tradition are the Sunni and Shi'a, each of which claims different means of maintaining religious authority.
This states that homosexuality is more than a sin but a crime against god. And if someone commits this "crime" they should be punish. The way this is worded you can tell that it was not written in this time period. But the punishments that you would receive was being stones, lynched, or tortured till death. The Quran teaches that homosexuality is a sin, but the Bible also teaches that pride is a sin, jealousy is a sin, and hate is a sin, evil. So I don't think that homosexuality should be chosen as a crime.
If you we're ever caught in a act of love with the same sex you would have been killed no questions asked. Like I said before you can't help who you love and so far in both religion I noticed a pattern that they each declare it as a crime. And if you grew up with the fact that it is a way of life to down grade someone because of love then would have a bad outcome. It kinda like how whites treated the blacks, they grew up learning that whites were superior and blacks were at the bottom of the social class.
In the end of the day we are all equals, gay, straight, black, white, tall, fat, and etc. You love who you love even if it is of the same sex. I don't see that as a crime to love someone. I find it a crime to degrade someone and punish
them because they love someone. From a religious point of view, if God had thought homosexuality is a sin, he would not have created gay people. But one thing that I hope people do realize in religion is that the time period difference. All of the books in each religion are hundreds of years old and so the time period was different then today's modern life style. And are able to draw the line between religion and cruelty.
